It is now on a different course than before the war. With a chastised South and war torn communities had to survive and adapt to the new and very different life, the devastated families on both sides of the conflict, were learning to cope with. AS is expected, you will be sitting on the edge of the chair and biting your fingernails as Thom takes you on this rough ride into and through another exciting portion of our countries mottled history.
JAMES IS HOPING FOR A 2010 PUBLISHING DATE.
Please keep checking as we will begin our autumn speaking tour in September.
DARK RAIN THOM HAS A HISTORICAL NOVEL ALSO HALF WRITTEN AND IS HOPING FOR A PUBLISHING DATE OF 2011.
This is based on true history of the late 1800's into the World War II era, as experienced by members of her family. Both men and women tell their stories. The proud hard working people of that era were not without their struggles. It was a time of Rail Roads at their best, America's first Imperialistic activities during the Banana Wars, men traveled often on the trains looking for work so they could take care of their families. Riding the rails was the most efficient mode of travel so long as the BULLS....(railroad federal detectives,) didn't catch you 'hitchin'.
During the time of this book you will hear of the earthquake of 1906 in San Francisco, the World War I sacrifices of American families as their farms were confiscated by the government without compensation. The Great Depression. The presidents inadequacy triggered the Soldiers March on the White House, the time of the DUST BOWL and its horrible consequences as the wind blew Great Plains dirt to the East blacking out sunlight a thousand miles away. And last but not least, war...always one more WAR to end all wars. WORLD WAR II.
While you will hear most of this from an old man who has become the communities best storyteller ever, you will also hear the story through the voices of the most influential women of his life,; his mother, his grandmother and his wife, or at least one of his wives. Each had a life effected by the loss of the presence of the men in their family. The men were missing for many reasons, One because of war and politics and disgrace, another was murdered, the last was Henry P. youngest surviving child of the murdered farm manager who hopped a cross country freight at age EIGHT.
You will have a different understanding of this country and your families part in sacrificing to make it as strong and unique as it and its People are today. We only know sacrifice of war and life's inconvenient demands by way of higher prices and the loss of life of breadwinners or dealing with their disabling injuries. You will be stunned by how much and in what ways, our ancestors "sacrificed" for Country, for freedom, for family, for you--their future.
Where some stories may read like a shameful lack of integrity, other stories will fill not just your heart but also your eye as you feel the hunger, the cold, the loneliness, the injustice of life, the heat and choke on the dust..and with our storytellers, you will join them in the hope there is enough love to keep living for just one more day.
Dark Rain is hoping for a late 2011 publication date.
